Here’s the history of the Ukraine & Zelenskyy you won't hear from the media: 🧵👇 1/22 pic.twitter.com/qQHtpXlBd0
Long Thread
The Trump-Zelensky meeting didn't go quite as planned
Ukraine president, Volodymyr Zelensky, came to the United States looking to be the Big Dog. That's why he wore his war suit. Zelensky wanted security guarantees from the United States and he was not going to talk about anything else until he got them.
Zelensky flips the script -- a misalignment in priorities
A disastrous exchange at the White House Oval Office between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance upended a planned mineral deal that would have resulted in the United States renewing its commitment to Ukraine’s defense.
The trio met in a televised meeting that started with them exchanging pleasantries and continued for forty minutes. They fielded questions and largely addressed one another cordially, until Zelensky interjected and caused a stir that led to admonishment from Vance for being disrespectful.
What started as a negotiation quickly escalated into a heated exchange over gratitude, diplomacy, and differing views on the war, derailing these agenda items. No minerals deal was signed, and a planned joint press conference was canceled. Zelensky’s insistence on security assurances clashed with Trump’s focus on a peace deal, highlighting a misalignment in priorities. Thus, while the intended agenda centered on economic cooperation and security talks, the meeting’s collapse left these objectives unresolved.
Zelensky's veiled threat to the United States, claiming we don’t “feel it” now because we have a “nice ocean” around us but “will feel it in the future,” caused President Trump to insert himself, chastising Kerensky:
“Don’t tell us what to feel. We are trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what to feel because you’re in no position to dictate that. Remember that. You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel,” President Trump said.
“You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards. You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people. You’re gambling with World War III.”
Zelensky is looking for guarantees and what Zelensky sees as the best guarantee, is American boots on Ukraine soil -- not a lot of American boots, mind you -- just enough so that if a bunch of them get killed by Russia, America would join the fighting and we could begin World War III -- and China could take Taiwan.
After the blowup, Zelensky was interviewed on Fox News by Brett Baier where he tried to salvage the day but was very clear about his position. He wants "guarantees."
Zelensky makes it very clear. He's not going to talk about anything until the United States "guarantees" to protect Ukraine.
"we want to just to find the place for our biggest strategic partner for the United States or United States will uh propose where and how United States will give us security guarantees what kind of and what part of volume of security guarantees and when we will be ready with this we will come to diplomacy, to diplomacy, yes with Russians, Europeans, United States and we for of us, I think this is real."
There you have it. Zelensky is not prepared to deal. He came to demand. It's what he has become accustomed to. Guarantees first, then talks. Zelensky was 180 degrees from Trump and he probably had some help getting there from the Democrats, specifically Susan Rice.
The disrespect was evident before the meeting when Zelensky showed up in his "war clothes" instead of a suit. When he met with Joe Biden, he showed up in a suit, demonstrating respect for the country, the office, and the man. This time Zee wasn't coming to negotiate, but to demand.
Demands have no place in a negotiation. That's not how you solve a conflict. Zelenski should've praised Trump and Vance for willing to come to Ukraine's aid by ending the bloodshed and helping to rebuild the country, but instead he disrespected them and made demands.
Trump was having none of it. He shut down the session and showed Zelensky and his people the door. After Zelensky was thrown out of the White House, the Press Office staffers got to eat Zelensky's fancy lunch.
Trump's agenda is to stop the war, to stop the bloodshed. In Zelensky's mind, the United States has become obligated to defend Ukraine and he wants American soldiers in Ukraine. When you cut through all the bullsh!t, it's as simple as that and that's a big mistake.
Zelensky keeps digging
In another clip of Brett Baier's interview Zelinski showed the world that he had learned nothing, as the ungrateful little bastard just dug himself deeper into a hole.
In his response to Baier, Zelensky is attempting to talk around Trump to "the people." He believes he can leverage Trump.
It's the historical relations, strong relations between our people, and that's why I always began with to say, to thank your people from our people and this is the most. important and of course thankful to president and of course to go congress, but first of all to your people, your people have to save our people, people, the first, human rights, the first, this is very, very important."
Did you get that?
"Your people have to save our people."
That mindset is a mistake, but after dealing with Democrats for almost twenty years, that's how Zelensky understands Americans. In Zelensky's mind, Americans exist for pulling the former Soviet state's ass out of the fire, now that it has a dispute with it's former rulers in Moscow.
It's a matter of "human rights." The United States has a moral obligation to protect Ukraine. Now, where do you think he might have gotten that idea?
Did Zelensky have help?
Team Democrats began the criticisms, but it was surprising to see who was carrying the ball, Susan Rice, who was on MSNBC within hours of the blowup and oddly enough had exactly the same talking points. Watch, as the former ambassador to the United Nations, a woman well versed in the diplomatic niceties, gives it away with a great diplomatic boner as she says:
"This was a setup. Volodymyr, er, mumble, nmnmm, Zelensky"
Zelensky got some real bad advice and probably from Susan Rice, amongst others. He was at the White House to sign the minerals deal which will provide prosperity to, and ensure the security of Ukraine.
It was Zelensky who demanded the meeting. It was Zelensky who wouldn't sign the deal they agreed to a week ago until he got his audience, and the Democrats want you to believe the blowup was Trump's fault.
Instead, inexplicably he decided to reneg on the deal and demanded additional concessions in front of the press. Insanely stupid move on his part. I hope he will explain who gave him such poor advice, and remove himself from the negotiations appoint someone he trusts to complete the negations with Secretary Rubio.
What was planned by the Democrats like Rice to be an ambush failed spectacularly. Zelensky is attached to the Democrats and the Deep State corruption machine. If he wants anything for Ukraine in the next four years, he had better turn state's evidence and confess all the sordid details to Trump.
Fox Business analyst Charles Gasparino wrote:
“Zelensky owns this one and it's not even close. You don’t come in with such a weak hand, piss off the guy you need, and then expect money and endless support. Anyone who has ever been in the easiest of negotiations knows this, and this negotiation was anything but easy. He has no choice but to take whatever Trump is offering, end the war now, grow his economy, and make Ukraine stronger.”
Zelensky is leaving the United States empty-handed after disrespecting our country in the Oval Office, and refusing to apologize to President Trump.
He’s going home with bupkis -- no mineral deal, no peace deal, and a tanking approval rating.
Looking on the brighter side, there was nothing done behind closed doors. All people of the world saw first hand what went down and we can all make up our own minds.
