Divisive Campaign Begins
The most transparent disinformation campaign ever!
Jamie Raskin's sorry-assed attempt to smear Donald Trump?
On Thursday, Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, released a report attempting to connect former President Donald Trump to a pay-for-play foreign influence scheme, but it's an absolutely absurd allegation and falls far short of the scandal he hoped it would be -- but that's not the point -- the point is to create a straw man for Wednesday's Hunter Biden contempt hearing.
Raskin's "blockbuster" reveals that The Trump Organization’s hotels and office buildings in Washington, New York and Las Vegas had income of $7.8 million from 20 foreign governments and their subsidiaries during the first two years of his presidency.
Raskin makes no distinction between Donald Trump, the man, and The Trump Organization, a separate 500-company entity as he weaves his tall tale..
Raskin is making a hell of a charge here. Is it possible that the billionaire, Trump, who gave his salary to charities was really on the take? Raskin charges:
"We got the documents, the receipts, that Donald Trump pocketed $7.8 million dollars from foreign governments."
Raskin draws the mental image of Trump shoving handfuls of $100 bills into his pockets, which is a total lie and Raskin knows it's a lie.
Control of The Trump Organization had been turned over to a trust controlled by his sons and chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, before Trump was sworn in to office.
What Raskin has is an aggregated list of payments, for lodging or rent, made by foreign tourists and business-people, who stayed at The Trump Organization-owned hotels or rented space in Trunp Organization-owned hotels and office buildings in Washington, DC, Manhattan and Las Vegas, and he's waving it around like it's the "smoking gun.".
Raskin's "smoking gun" -- hotel receipts!
This is it. This is what Raskin is hoping to used to derail the Hunter Biden hearing. It has the name of the country. It has the total income in the first two years of Trump's term and it has the name of the "Trump Business Patronized" -- ya got that? -- "Trump Business Patronized."
Trump was trying to run the country and defend himself against Russiagate and impeachments. He wasn't pocketing "petty cash."
It's all make believe.
Raskin knows the difference between Donald Trump, the man, and the Trump International Hotel in Washington, so, he also knows his charge of, "Trump pocketed $7.8 million dollars from foreign governments," is a damnable lie -- but there he is on CNN, slandering Donald Trump with a lie that he knows is a lie.
The media frenzy begins
This is a bullsh!t story. Nothing about it is real. It's just one more Democratic Party disinformation campaign. They throw out an absurd charge and the media runs with it.
These monies were payment from foreign tourists/business-people who stayed at The Trump Organization-owned hotels or rented office space. Trump is not The Trump Organization. Trump never received a dime of the alleged $7.8 million. The hotels did. The Office buildings did. The restaurants did. The problem is that all the major news companies are reporting the Raskin lie by implying or coming right out and saying that these were payments directly to President Trump -- and that is a flat-out lie and Raskin knows it's a lie.
NBC reports the lie
NBC News, the largest news network in the country spread the news with this blaring headline:
Trump received at least $7.8 million in payments from foreign governments as president, House Democrats say
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee obtained information about the payments during two of the four years Trump served as president.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, wrote in the report's foreword that the payments came from "some of the world's most unsavory regimes," with China being the leading spender, paying more than $5.5 million to Trump-owned properties, according to the report. Some of the other countries that made payments to Trump were Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, India and Afghanistan.
All countries that belong to the United Nations and that have embassies in Washington, DC. Do you see how absurd this is?
MSNBC enhances the lie
MSNBC goes above and beyond promoting the lie. MSNBC adds "influence peddling" to the list of alleged crimes:
The Oversight Committee has finally found evidence of a President engaged in foreign influence peddling:
This is just recycled nonsense from the Democrats who already attempted to sue President Trump when he was in office for violating the “emoluments clause,” an obscure constitutional provisions that prohibit the acceptance or receipt of “emoluments” -- gifts. They lost.
The Supreme Court vacated the lower courts’ decisions in a pair of cases involving allegations that, as president, Trump received benefits from the hotels and restaurants that he owns, in violation of two anti-corruption provisions of the Constitution known as the emoluments clauses.
Is any of this beginning to sound familiar?
Axios reports "a clear-cut violation"
"A report from Democrats on the House Oversight Committee accuses Trump of receiving at least $7.8 million in foreign payments to his properties during his presidency. Democrats allege it's a clear-cut violation of the Constitution’s emoluments clause."
Hotel receipts! Receipts from Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant! Axios sees payoffs!
Driving the news: The 156-page report titled “White House for Sale: How Princes, Prime Ministers, and Premiers Paid Off President Trump” draws on documents from Trump’s accounting firm, Mazars, obtained after years of high-profile court battles.
“President Trump never sought or received Congress's approval to keep these foreign payments, as the Constitution requires,” the report says, also drawing links between the payments and Trump's policy decisions.
Princes, prime ministers, and premiers never "paid off President Trump.” That's absurd! It never happened, but there it is on Axios website. So, it must be true.
Why would they do something so stupid?
Next week, the House Oversight Committee will meet to consider a resolution and accompanying report to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for violating federal law.
The Republican chairmen of the House Oversight and Judiciary committees announced Friday that they will hold full committee votes on contempt charges against President Joe Biden's son as the GOP moves into the final stages of its months-long impeachment inquiry. If the charges pass the committees, they would then go to the House floor for a final vote.
Raskin intends to stop that, even if he has to turn the hearing into a circus.
Raskin is desperate to impede the hearing
On Friday, Raskin threw up another air-ball objecting to the hearing, but it was just another collection of reasons why Hunter gets to make the rules, which isn't going to fly this time.
Expect Raskin and his fellow Democrats to do their best to make a mockery of the hearing. That's their job, but what is insidious is the ease with which the most bullsh!t stuff can be passed to the Democratic media which will puff it up and regurgitate it without question.
For the record!
For the record, profits from Trump’s businesses from foreign governments “were donated in full to the United States Treasury for patronage at our properties while President Trump was in office,” Kimberly Benza told NPR. Benza made note of a $450,000 donation Trump made.
Speaking at Mr Trump's first news conference since he was elected in November, Ms Dillon explained that all of the Trump Organization's businesses would be transferred to a trust controlled by his sons and the chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, before Mr Trump takes power on 20 January.
"Together, Don, Eric, and Allen will have the authority to manage the Trump Organization and will make decisions for the duration of the presidency without any involvement whatsoever by President-elect Trump," said Ms Dillon, whose firm Morgan, Lewis and Bockius has been instructed by Mr Trump to draw up a structure to keep his business interests separate.
Ms Dillon added that an ethics adviser would be appointed to the management board of the trust to oversee any potential conflicts of interest.
